To Bleach or not to Bleach? June 29 2013

The lurking question... To bleach or not to bleach?

My family is always on the go and we have come to stick with using bumGenius Freetime One-Size All-In-One diapers for reasons of simplicity between multiple care providers who even like to help with laundry from time to time. (They had difficulty and much anxiety about matching up pocket diapers and inserts)
Up until now we have stripped diapers about every couple of months or so. Recently we moved to an area that has very hard water and so began our constant stripping and soaking, about twice as often as before.
I previously had negative experiences with bleach so I was hesitant to use it on my diapers!!

I gave in. I couldn't handle the constant soaking and stripping. Despite my best efforts with vinegar, baking soda, and every Rockin' Green treatment method imaginable. I tried the bumGenius recommended bleaching treatment for our awfully stinky diapers.

It totally worked. If you read the directions from your original packaging they even say it may be especially helpful for those with hard water... Yep.
Thank you Cottonbabies for making me trust your advice and making me feel like an oaf. :)

If you have some stinking bumGenius products just pour up to 1/4 cup bleach in the hot wash cycle to sanitize diapers and fight odors once a month.

For every diaper you should probably read the manufacturers directions as for some, bleaching may void the warranty. However for us and our stash of Freetime diapers, it zapped the problem totally. Completely. Gone.

What are your experiences with bleach, bleach alternatives, and managing diapers? Have you tried bleach to manage other brands? Have you used bleach to get rid of yeast?
